00 TUKE VPN: pripojenie do školskej siete z domu00 TUKE VPN: connecting to the university network from home

Sigma (server, na ktorom bežia tvoje stránky) je dostupná len zo školskej siete. V učebni ju vidíš hneď. Z domu, z internátu alebo z kaviarne sa najprv pripojíš cez VPN (Virtual Private Network). Tvoj počítač sa tým „presťahuje“ do školskej siete. Kubeflow a GitHub VPN nepotrebujú, tie fungujú odkiaľkoľvek.

Inštaláciu a nastavenie robíš len raz. Potom sa pri každej práci z domu pripojíš dvoma klikmi.

Sigma (the server where your pages run) is reachable only from the university network. In the lab you see it right away. From home, the dormitory or a café you first connect through a VPN (Virtual Private Network). Your computer is then "moved" into the university network. Kubeflow and GitHub do not need the VPN, they work from anywhere.

You install and set this up only once. Afterwards, every time you work from home you connect with two clicks.

Čo potrebuješWhat you need

  • Windows 10 alebo 11 (macOS, Linux a mobil sú na konci návodu).
  • Svoj TUKE login (napr. jn123ab) a heslo, to isté ako do MAIS a e-mailu.
  • Login musí byť platný, overíš na identity.tuke.sk.
  • Windows 10 or 11 (macOS, Linux and phones are at the end of this guide).
  • Your TUKE login (e.g. jn123ab) and password, the same as for MAIS and e-mail.
  • The login must be valid; check at identity.tuke.sk.

Inštalácia klienta (raz)Installing the client (once)

  1. Otvor Microsoft Store (Štart, napíš „Store“).
  2. Do vyhľadávania napíš Check Point Capsule VPN.
  3. Klikni Získať / Inštalovať. Aplikácia je zadarmo a má ikonu s ružovým štítom.
  4. Po inštalácii ju nespúšťaj z Obchodu. Nastavuje sa cez Nastavenia Windows (ďalšia časť).

Ak si mal starší Check Point klient a VPN nefunguje, odinštaluj ho (Nastavenia, Aplikácie) a nainštaluj znova z Microsoft Store. Toto je najčastejšia oprava, odporúča ju aj ÚVT.

  1. Open Microsoft Store (Start, type "Store").
  2. In the search box type Check Point Capsule VPN.
  3. Click Get / Install. The app is free and has a pink shield icon.
  4. After installing, do not launch it from the Store. It is configured through Windows Settings (next section).

If you had an older Check Point client and the VPN does not work, uninstall it (Settings, Apps) and install it again from the Microsoft Store. This is the most common fix; the university IT department recommends it too.

Nastavenie pripojenia (raz)Setting up the connection (once)

  1. Otvor Nastavenia (Win + I), potom Sieť a internet, potom VPN.
  2. Klikni Pridať VPN.
  3. Poskytovateľ siete VPN: vyber Check Point Capsule VPN. (Ak v zozname nie je, inštalácia neprebehla. Reštartuj počítač a skús znova.)
  4. Názov pripojenia: TUKE VPN (ľubovoľný, len nie remote.tuke.sk, ten názov robí problémy).
  5. Názov alebo adresa servera: remote.tuke.sk
  6. Typ prihlasovacích údajov: Meno používateľa a heslo.
  7. Meno používateľa: tvoj TUKE login. Heslo: tvoje TUKE heslo. Zaškrtni Zapamätať.
  8. Klikni Uložiť.
  1. Open Settings (Win + I), then Network & internet, then VPN.
  2. Click Add VPN.
  3. VPN provider: choose Check Point Capsule VPN. (If it is not in the list, the installation did not complete. Restart the computer and try again.)
  4. Connection name: TUKE VPN (anything, but not remote.tuke.sk, that name causes problems).
  5. Server name or address: remote.tuke.sk
  6. Type of sign-in info: Username and password.
  7. User name: your TUKE login. Password: your TUKE password. Tick Remember my sign-in info.
  8. Click Save.

Pripojenie a odpojenie (vždy, keď pracuješ z domu)Connecting and disconnecting (every time you work from home)

  1. Klikni na ikonu siete vpravo dole na lište (Wi-Fi alebo kábel).
  2. Klikni VPN, potom TUKE VPN, potom Pripojiť.
  3. Pri prvom pripojení sa môže objaviť otázka o dôveryhodnosti servera (fingerprint, certifikát). Potvrď Áno / Trust.
  4. Pripojenie je hotové, keď pri TUKE VPN svieti Pripojené.
  5. Po práci sa odpoj (rovnaké miesto, Odpojiť). Cez VPN ide všetok prenos do školy, video a hry budú pomalšie.

Overenie: so zapnutou VPN otvor v prehliadači https://sigma.tuke.sk/. Má sa zobraziť stránka servera (aj keď len prázdna alebo s chybou 403). Bez VPN sa stránka nenačíta vôbec.

  1. Click the network icon at the bottom right of the taskbar (Wi-Fi or cable).
  2. Click VPN, then TUKE VPN, then Connect.
  3. On the first connection a question about trusting the server (fingerprint, certificate) may appear. Confirm Yes / Trust.
  4. The connection is ready when TUKE VPN shows Connected.
  5. When you finish, disconnect (same place, Disconnect). All traffic goes through the university while connected; video and games will be slower.

Check: with the VPN on, open https://sigma.tuke.sk/ in the browser. The server page must appear (even if empty or with error 403). Without the VPN the page does not load at all.

Všimni si posledný riadok: keď na sigma pristupuješ z terminálu v Kubeflow, VPN nepotrebuješ ani z domu, Kubeflow beží v škole. VPN treba len vtedy, keď sa na sigma pripája tvoj vlastný počítač (prehliadač, WinSCP, PuTTY).

Note the last row: when you access sigma from the terminal in Kubeflow, you do not need the VPN even from home, because Kubeflow runs inside the university. The VPN is needed only when your own computer connects to sigma (browser, WinSCP, PuTTY).

  • macOS: the Check Point Capsule VPN client is in the App Store. The setup is the same (server remote.tuke.sk, TUKE login).
  • Android / iPhone: the Capsule VPN app (Check Point). Handy for a quick look at a page, not for work.
  • Linux: the university also offers the older OpenVPN solution; the guide is at uvt.tuke.sk.
